STAR is a multi-line medical device and supply company offering Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) products from many manufacturers.
Shelton Technologies and Resources (STAR) was founded in 2001 by Kevin Shelton in Lakeland, Florida. In the '90s, Kevin worked for the Polk County School Board for an educational program at a center for adults with disabilities. The students had no access to technology or computers to communicate. Kevin saw the potential in the students, so he started gathering equipment, computers, and various technology resources to aid in helping them communicate. He realized how much they progressed and were able to further their education. It sparked an interest in him to start his own company. By doing so, he has been able to share his passion and knowledge about AAC/AT products and make a difference one voice at a time.
By carrying multiple lines of assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices, STAR can serve people with a wide range of speech and communication impairments. Our clients include schools like the University of South Florida, Montech, and the University of Colorado (SWAAAC), where speech-generated devices can be borrowed from their lending libraries. These devices can be vital in allowing students with disabilities access to the general education curriculum.
STAR distributes devices and accessories to schools, government entities, and consumers across the USA. Our services include trialing devices, assisting with funding, delivering devices, training, and ongoing support for the devices and/or software. We are accredited and certified as a home medical equipment provider through ACHA. We are enrolled in Medicare and Florida Medicaid, and Medicaid approved in many other states. We offer Low-tech and High-tech AAC devices, including languages, text displays, large print, tactile, plain language, and even eye-tracking devices. We genuinely believe in making a difference, one voice at a time.
