Funding

Funding Services

Shelton Technologies and Resources (STAR) stands out with its comprehensive approach. We offer AAC equipment through evaluation (SLP), funding, delivery, training, and ongoing support. Our primary focus is funding, delivery services, and training for DME equipment that facilitates augmentative communication and alternative access for individuals with cognitive and/or physical challenges.

Here at STAR, we understand how confusing the funding process can be, so we are here to help you navigate it 100%.

We value the confidentiality, privacy, and security of an individual's Protected Health Information (PHI). Any forms downloaded or uploaded are HIPAA compliant, encrypted, and scanned for viruses and malware before being sent and received.

Medicaid/Medicare

As a credentialed Medicaid/Medicare Provider for Speech-Generating Devices, we are currently approved for Medicare in all 50 states.

Each state has its individualized credentialing process. We are currently credentialed in 11 states for Medicaid: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Montana, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. Here at STAR, our ultimate goal is to become Medicaid-approved for all 50 states!

Feel free to contact our funding department at funding@staraac.com if you do not see your state listed.

Step-By Step Funding

  • Will my insurance cover a device?
    • Insurance companies determine what services are covered according to your health care plan. Shelton Technologies will contact your insurance company to verify benefits and coverage on your behalf.
    • For STAR funding to verify your coverage, an intake packet is required to look up benefits.
    • Upload the completed packet with copies of insurance cards (front & back).
    • Unable to print? No worries. You can fill out the form digitally. Please complete the secure forms request below to have an Intake Forms sent directly to you.
    • Once your paperwork has been received, STAR will be in contact to facilitate the next steps.
  • What device is appropriate for me?
    • Almost all insurance companies require trialing a device before approving a speech device.
    • A complete evaluation by an ASHA-certified SLP must be conducted while trialing the device.
    • If an SLP has referred you to trial one of our devices, you have submitted the intake packet, and insurance has been verified, a lending agreement can be submitted by uploading it here.
    • Unable to print? No worries. You can fill out the form digitally. Please complete the secure forms request below to have a Lending Agreement sent directly to you.
    • STAR funding will contact you to notify you of trial status.
  • Must I or my SLP request a medical necessity script from my doctor?
    • Once STAR has received the report from the SLP, a STANDARD WRITTEN ORDER (SWO) will need to be requested from the treating physician, who has had a face-to-face visit with the beneficiary within the last six (6) months. The physician must recommend the SGD in your SLP report in the beneficiary's medical documentation, which must accompany the SWO. STAR will navigate that step for you, so you do not need to worry. Medical Necessity was removed from CMS standards for SGDs. It is now referred to as an SWO.
    • Physicians can request the SWO Form sent directly to them for digital signatures. Please complete the secure forms request below to have an SWO sent directly to a physician.
    • Instructions for physicians on SWO requirements can be accessed by clicking here.
    • The SWO can also be printed and accessed by clicking here.
    • Physicians can submit the completed SWO (PDF Version) by uploading it here.
  • What happens next?
    • If you and your SLP decide to proceed with our device, contact STAR funding@staraac.com to initiate the funding process.
    • Feel free to be persistent but patient with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our funding department.
